4 excellent new tracks - this is a pretty good snapshot of where Jon's music's at right now - a little colder / more challenging than the first installment but sitll well worth a listen...
"Listening to Ear Weevils 2 can be a woozy & disorientating experience. Four tracks made equally with traditional & virtual instruments, not many of which escape from extensive processing & looping once recorded. Guitars are twisted into new shapes, Jon’s occasional vocals modulated beyond recognition, remnants of found sounds battle for space with walls of analogue keyboards. & then, just when you think you know where it is all heading, up crops something simple & pretty.
The same obsessive attention to detail present in previous Intonamori music is in evidence here with all sounds being either played on acoustic instruments & re-sampled or built from the ground up. Save for a solitary electric piano, there is no room for pre-existing samples or presets in the world of Ear Weevils. Oddly pastoral, the music (& its author) here yearns for a release from the day-to-day concrete & metallic mundanity of city life. Even at its most harsh & electronic under the surface glows a strange warmth, pulsing & flickering."
